Finishing the season undefeated and beating Ohio State 52-24 to win the AT&T National College Football Championship Monday night made some Alabama players feel as though they made history.
„I think we’re the best team ever,” the Alabama midfielder Mac Jones He said.
Jones, who shot more than 4,000 yards in the season and won a Davey O’Brien Award for Best QB in the country, cited the team’s 10-game schedule in all regular seasons.
The league only adopted the conference list in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
„No team will ever play the SEC schedule like this again,” Jones said. „At the same time, we’re so happy we won this match and kind of put the icing on the cake.”
Alabama defensive line Christian Barmore, Who was named MVP after finishing the tournament match with one bag and two tackles for a loss, agreed to the midfielder’s rating.
“Yeah, we’re really the best team because we worked hard,” said Barmore. „We didn’t hear the outside noise. We ignored the COVID things. We worked hard together. We really sought this out, the camp, the quarrels, everything.”
Alabama started the season at number three in the Associated Press Preseason poll, but quickly declared it the number one team in college football, beating the top 10 in Georgia and Texas A&M in the first four weeks of the season.
Crimson Tide then ran to the table, topping No. 22 Auburn in late November and Florida No. 7 in the SEC Championship match to clinch the No. 1 seed in the playoff match.
In the CFP semi-finals, Alabama beat Notre Dame by 17 points.
In the national title game, Alabama handed Ohio State its only loss this season.
Tide’s defense was up and down, but the offensive was prolific.
Nagy Harris Lunge 1,466 yards and won the Doak Walker Award, awarded to the nation’s best enemy.
Devonta Smith He gained 117 assists for 23 touchdowns and became the first recipient to win the Heisman Cup in 29 years.
Finally, the Alabama average score is 48.5 and 541.6 yards per game.
And while Alabama coach Nick Saban has avoided any direct comparisons to other programs, he has not hesitated to place this Alabama team in the context of the other five Alabama teams he has led to the national championships.
„There is no disdain for any of our other teams or any championship teams, but this team has won 11 matches in the SEC,” Saban said. „No other team has done that. They have won the SEC, unbeaten in the SEC, then beat two big teams in the qualifiers without a break in between.”
„This is our fifth game in a row, from LSU to Arkansas to Florida to Notre Dame to here. We played 13 games, unbeaten with all the turmoil we’ve seen this season. I think there’s a little bit of writing about it when it comes to the team’s legacy.”
