Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said on Saturday that Argentina will start vaccinating its citizens against Covid-19 on Tuesday using the Russian-produced Sputnik V vaccine.

The country received a shipment of 300,000 doses of Sputnik V on December 24, and will become the fourth country in Latin America – after Mexico, Chile and Costa Rica – to start vaccinating citizens against the virus.

Argentine Health Minister Guinness Gonzalez Garcia said on Twitter that the vaccination campaign would be implemented „in a fair manner throughout the country.”

According to the government’s vaccination plan, health care workers and educators will be among the first to be vaccinated, along with individuals at risk of developing a serious illness, such as people over the age of 70. Priority will also be given as part of the first phase of vaccinations in Argentina.

Argentine authorities announced, on Wednesday, new entry requirements for citizens, residents and foreigners who have permission to enter the country.

Passengers have to present a negative PCR test result at Ezeiza or San Fernando airports, which will be the only airports through which passengers can enter the country, in addition to a seven-day quarantine.

The restrictions will be in effect until January 8, according to the Interior Ministry.

So far, Argentina has reported a total of 1578,267 cases of Covid-19 and 42,501 deaths since the start of the epidemic, according to the country’s health ministry.
